More than 25 years with IGP<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Allan Maindal has been training in IPO \u2013 now IGP \u2013 since 1998 and has made his mark at both Danish and international level over the years. He has won DcH\u2019s Danish Championship for IGP dogs three times: in 2005, 2016 and 2018 \u2013 with three different dogs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

With Chades Vega<\/strong> this brought the total to seven appearances at the German Shepherd Club\u2019s Danish Championship and two World Championships. In 2018 and 2019, Allan competed with Jabina Luna, and in 2019 they also took part in the World Championship together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since 2022, he has competed with Wilcken Aron.<\/strong> This has resulted in five Danish Championship appearances and five World Championship appearances. At their first World Championship, held at Randers Stadium in 2022, they finished 8th overall and achieved the best Group B score with 94 points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From IPO to IGP \u2013 a sport that became a lifelong passion<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I started training in IPO, now known as IGP, back in 1998 with my first dog. Unfortunately, he was not suited to the programme, but in 2000 I got a new dog \u2013 and that was when my IGP career really began.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What is IGP?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

IGP is an international working trial programme consisting of three disciplines. The programme is divided into IGP 1, IGP 2 and IGP 3, with IGP 3 being the elite level. In each of the three disciplines, the dog and handler can achieve up to 100 points, giving a combined maximum score of 300 points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How do you get started with IGP?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

You can start training in IGP if you have acquired a working dog. Allan highlights DcH, the German Shepherd Dog Club, the Rottweiler Club and the Belgian Shepherd Dog Club as places where you can find training communities and get started.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

TRAIN ONE SECTION AT A TIME<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

IGP requires work in all three sections<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

For Allan, progress has been built over many years, many dogs and countless hours of training. It is not just about mastering the exercises, but about creating a partnership in which dog and handler work precisely together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

His own journey began in 1998. Two years later, he got the dog that truly set his IGP career in motion \u2013 and since then, the sport has been a constant part of his life.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IGP is not one exercise \u2013 it is three disciplines, each requiring its own training.<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

How does Allan maintain and improve his IGP skills?<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

I maintain my IGP training by training all three sections weekly and also doing physical training. In total, I spend around 15\u201320 hours a week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI most enjoy training Section B \u2013 it requires both plenty of power from the dog and a great deal of precision in each individual exercise.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Section B is the favourite<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

What I like best is training Section B \u2013 obedience. It is the section you can train on your own, and at the same time it is a discipline that requires both plenty of power from the dog and a high degree of precision in each individual exercise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1. What do you like most about practising IGP with your dog?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

I like training group B best. It is a group that can be trained on its own, while also being a discipline that requires both plenty of power from the dog and great precision in every exercise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. What has been your best experience?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

My best experience was Aron\u2019s and my first World Championship, held at Randers Stadium in 2022. We finished 8th overall and achieved the best group B score, with 94 points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Allan has worked with IPO\/IGP since 1998. Over the years, he has won DcH\u2019s Danish Championship for IGP dogs three times with three different dogs and competed numerous times at both the Danish and World Championships. Today, he continues his work with Wilcken Aron, driven by his love of the dogs, the training and the constant pursuit of making their teamwork even sharper.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
